One of the challenges for set decorating on this film was to create a before and after appearance for many of the rooms, including the Great Hall. The before was to represent the mid to early Victorian era and to show the house as austere and outdated.
With Connie’s arrival the new era of fashionable Edwardian society was shown through room transformations that involved fresher brighter colours, with more dynamic and interesting textiles and lighter and ‘more modern’ furniture.
